Hi!

Welcome to:

Bitters & Sweet

Let’s make some cocktails!

Boulevardier

Boulevardier

I’ve been spending the past few days out in Hoodsport, located on the Hood Canal. After several days of sun, today was cloudy and cool. I love this little slice of heaven where stress seems to roll away with the sound of the waves. Even on a cloudy day, it feels like you’re escaping the craziness of everyday life. I spent most of the day reading and enjoying a quiet day with my kids. By the time happy hour rolled around, I found myself craving bourbon but wasn’t sure what cocktail I felt like making. I happen to be reading a book that has a reddish orange cover so that got me thinking about Campari. I decided a Boulevardier was just the cocktail for an overcast evening. The Boulevardier is similar to a Negroni, only it calls for bourbon in place of the gin. I love a cocktail that calls for three ingredients in equal parts. I chose Elijah Craig bourbon and I always choose Antica Carpano sweet vermouth. You can execute the beverage in various ways- served up or on the rocks. Today I opted for a rocks glass with one large ice cube and an orange peel. Like a Negroni, this cocktail is a perfect balance of boozy, sweet, and bitter. It made for an ideal drink to sip while watching my kids cast their fishing poles from the dock. Cheers!
